Some books are better for reading. Others are better for listening. Over the last 5 years, I have been reading or listening to 30+ books each year. More recently, given my short commute I have found more time reading than listening so I have frozen my audible account and reserved my listening time for short trips around the city and while preparing meals.
Since I don’t have any new credits flowing in I have been whittling down the books that I will re-listen to, because these are the ones that are speaking the type of words & thoughts I want going into my subconscious.
It is hard to know for certain the impact that these books have had on my life, but it feels immense. There is something different about a voice being in your ear that really helps a message to seep in and affect your thoughts, actions, and, ultimately, results when it is listened to repeatedly.
If I were to only have 6 audiobooks, and I could still read physical books on philosophy, health, and business, these would be the 6 I would select to have a positive, motivated, and resilient mindset:
- Goals – Zig Ziglar
- How to Stay Motivated: Developing the Qualities Of Success – Zig Ziglar
- The Magic of Thinking Big – David J. Schwartz Ph.D
- The Obstacle Is the Way – Ryan Holiday
- Ego Is the Enemy – Ryan Holiday
- Stillness Is the Key – Ryan Holiday
I hope you will consider getting one or more for the new year.
