In Jiu-Jitsu a common phrase is position over submission. The idea is that if you are in a good position of control that the submission will present itself. When you are new, if you are always focused on creating a submission then frustration will set in when you do not get it.
When starting a new job the same principle applies. We want to make that immediate impact and solve the big problems, and get frustrated when we cannot right away. It’s okay. Get yourself in a good position by mastering your day-to-day and observe vigilantly for the problem to present itself.
