How To Talk To The Eminent Dead

About a month ago, at Open AI’s Dev Day, they introduced GPTs.

You can make your own customized chatbot. It is simple to do.

Here is an example of the inputs I used to make a chatbot of a Jiu-Jitsu coach I like:

The image shows a user interface for creating a chatbot named "John Danabot." It features a profile picture of a man, presumably John Danaher, wearing a suit and tie. Below the name, there's a description that reads "John Danaher, In Chatbot Form." The instructions section explains that the chatbot will answer questions similar to John Danaher based on text files uploaded, and can discuss martial arts strategy and has extensive knowledge of history, chess, warfare, and technology. The chatbot also encourages what the Japanese call Kaizen. Below are conversation starters and a section titled "Knowledge," indicating the chatbot can include file contents. There are documents listed with titles suggesting content from Joe Rogan's podcast and other martial arts-related topics. At the bottom, there's an "Upload files" button to add more content.

I’ve enjoyed thinking about the implications of this.

For example, you could get a text file of Ben Franklin’s autobiography, or Charlie Munger’s talks – upload it – and then run questions by them.

Or you could take someone less famous. Let’s say you record a few long conversations with your parents, or perhaps you have letters they have written over the years. You could use these recordings or letters as a foundation to continue receiving their advice, even long after they’re gone.

Remember in Harry Potter how the picture frames could talk? This advancement might become a reality sooner than we anticipate.
