November 2024 Recap (my favorite short workout, new traditions, port visit & more!)

Winter is here and 2025 is almost upon us…

When coming to good clean numbers, in multiples of 5, I find it to be a good time to start thinking long-term. Take a day or two in December think about + write down what you’d like your life to look like in 2030.

Here are some highlights from my last month…

My Favorite Kettlebell Workout (when I only have 10 minutes)

My favorite workout lately, when I don’t have any time, is this:

Set a stopwatch and do a low-rep (1-5 reps), but explosive set, every minute*, for 10 minutes.

*(commonly referred to as an “EMOM” for “every minute on the minute”)

I especially like this for heavy kettlebell swings or kettlebell clean & press. Even if I have more than 10 minutes, I usually do a variation of this to start my workout.

It’s short enough that I can do it before my son’s attention span wanes…and, it turns out, if your kids see you working out, they will follow.

Cool Birthday Tradition

My son turned 2 last month.

One cool thing my wife and I did, about a week after our son was born, is write down as much detail as we could remember about his birth. We revisited it for his last two birthdays. Tears followed.

And we also write a short letter highlighting the last year. It’s helpful to scroll through old photos before doing so…so much happens in a year!

Port Visit

This month I visited the port of Baltimore…

The ports have been in the news lately for the looming strike. It is one of the invisible forces in our modern lives (like working plumbing or electricity). If there are no problems, you don’t notice it. But it humming in the background keeps our world moving.

Hats off to all the truckers, stevedoers, and shippers who keep our economy moving!
