September 2024 Recap (triathlon, 1 year no booze, sleep, kids books, & I’m hiring!)

My 2nd Sprint Triathlon

I like to do one endurance event per year. This is the second year in a row I did a sprint triathlon. It’s a great event, and super approachable for someone who is already fit. Half mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run.

Long enough that it challenges you mentally. Not so long that you need to lose muscle to do it.

Highly recommend.

365+ days without alcohol

As I write this, I’m in NY for the 33rd Catskill Wiffle Ball Tournament. A special enough occasion that I broke my no-alcohol streak that I started last year.

Has it made my life better? Definitely. Not having alcohol as your default social drink is a life hack that doesn’t take long to get used to. (Topo Chico with lime has become a drink of choice)

You wake up each feeling good.

I started my streak after a mentor of mine told me he stopped drinking years ago. He finds it easy to maintain with all the options available. I found it easy, too. If you’re forward about it most people don’t bat an eye.

The other nice thing is, when a special occasion does come around, you can have a great time with 1-3 drinks.

How To Sleep Fast

All 3 of my roommates (brother, wife, Lapham), agree on one thing: I’m the fastest sleeper alive.

My wife is consistently shocked that I always knock out before she does…

Here are the general rules I follow:

  • No phone 1 hour before bed (I’m not perfect with this),
  • only small sips of water after dinner,
  • always have a book to read,
  • no coffee 8 hrs before bed,
  • no food 2 hrs before bed,
  • exercise every day.

Follow these rules and you’ll sleep faster.

Protege (my son sound asleep in OCNJ)

I made a kid’s book on kindle

Kids are natural imitators.

They soak up everything around them.

This is why you want to fill their world with stories that inspire them and build character.

I designed a picture book — Endurance & Hope — with images and a story that lays a foundation of resilience and hope.

It’s based on the incredible true story of Earnest Shackleton’s survival in Antarctica in 1916—a tale of overcoming the odds.

You can add this story to your child’s library by purchasing it for your Kindle here.

I’m hiring!

I have an opening on my team at Under Armour.

Details here. Let me know if you or someone you know is interested!
